Our Team

Mr. Beard graduated from the USAF Academy in 1973 and served as a pilot with the U.S. Air Force until 1979, when he transitioned to a civilian engineering role with the Air Force. He worked for the Air Force for seven years and in private industry for four years. During his time in private industry, Brian designed instrumentation systems, including a patient‑worn activity monitor.

In 1990, he returned to school full‑time and earned a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University. After graduating from Vanderbilt, he joined the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), where he worked until his retirement at the end of 2021. He now consults part‑time.
